Job duties include:
The role requires close monitoring of the deflashing machine as pallets are routed. Employees must remain outside the safety barrier while the machine is operating. Once pallets reach the takeaway belt, the stack must be removed, inspected for quality, and hand-routed if needed. The employee will apply the appropriate shift color stripe on the left side and the weight color stripe on the right side, mark the center of the top pallet to indicate a 25-pallet stack, and complete the warehouse tag with the correct size and weight information. One half of the tag must be placed on the completed stack of 50 pallets, while the other half is retained for tag sheet counting. Any pallets that appear questionable must be immediately quarantined according to company procedures. Completed full stacks are to be transported to the proper warehouse location in an organized and timely manner.
Maintaining cleanliness in the deflash area is essential, including emptying garbage cans and the dust hopper as needed. The employee is also expected to perform any additional duties assigned by the shift supervisor to support overall operations.
This position is also responsible for operating core plug presses and packing equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. The employee must continuously monitor core plug quality throughout the shift, conduct hourly weight checks, and accurately record all required data.
The role requires making necessary machine adjustments to maintain product quality and minimize scrap. Finished core plug boxes must be properly stacked, and the box erector must remain stocked to prevent production delays. Each box must be clearly marked with the appropriate shift designation, and the final box on every pallet must include the date and time. Completed pallets are to be moved to the designated staging area for proper cooling.
Additional responsibilities include regularly cleaning steam lines and steam filters to ensure optimal equipment performance. The employee must accurately document production totals, scrap, and downtime on the core plug production sheet. Once cooled, plugs from the previous day must be wrapped and transported to the correct warehouse location.
Maintaining a clean and organized work area is essential, including cleaning air filters as directed. The employee is also expected to perform any additional duties assigned by the shift supervisor to support overall operations.
Employees must follow all safety procedures at all times and inspect their work area at the start of each shift to ensure equipment is operating properly. Strong communication and adherence to standard operating procedures are required to maintain safe, efficient production.
This role requires wearing PPE and performing physically demanding work, including lifting 50+ pounds, working around machinery, and tolerating wood dust and varying temperatures..
Additional duties include assisting maintenance, supporting training, performing quality checks, recording production data, maintaining a clean work area, pulling pallet stacks, recommending improvements, and completing other tasks as assigned.
