About the Role
Mancan Staffing is assisting a local client in their search for a Physical Security Design Specialist. This position is responsible for designing and developing security system solutions that support field installation teams and successful project completion.
The ideal candidate will have experience with physical security systems, low-voltage design, drafting, or related engineering work. This role will work closely with sales, project management, and field teams to create detailed, accurate, and buildable designs for access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and other security systems.

Responsibilities
• Design physical security systems including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and low-voltage systems
• Create detailed device layouts, floor plans, riser diagrams, and system design documentation
• Develop bills of materials (BOMs), equipment schedules, and product specifications
• Support estimating and sales teams with accurate project scope and material requirements
• Review site surveys and interpret architectural and construction drawings
• Select appropriate hardware and technologies based on project requirements, budget, and performance needs
• Ensure designs meet applicable industry standards and code requirements, including NEC, NFPA, ADA, and local regulations
• Prepare permit documentation, submittals, and as-built drawings
• Collaborate with project managers and field technicians to ensure designs are practical and installation-ready
• Maintain design standards, templates, and documentation for consistency
• Stay current on security technology, products, and industry best practices
Qualifications
Required:
• 3–5 years of experience in physical security, low-voltage systems, system design, or related drafting/design work
• Experience with security system design or site-survey software (System Surveyor or similar preferred)
• Strong knowledge of access control, video surveillance, intrusion systems, and low-voltage applications
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
• Understanding of NEC, NFPA, ADA, and applicable safety codes
• Knowledge of IP networking as it relates to security systems
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and communication skills
• Valid driver's license for occasional site visits
Preferred:
• Degree or certification in engineering, drafting, design, or related field
• NICET or manufacturer certifications
• ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification
• Active low-voltage or alarm license
• Experience creating BOMs and assisting with estimating
• Experience in security integration or related industries
