Job Summary:
The Saw Operator is responsible for accurately cutting hydraulic tubes, pipes, and metal stock materials according to engineering specifications, production schedules, and quality standards. The role involves operating automatic and semi-automatic sawing equipment, ensuring dimensional accuracy, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety procedures to support efficient fabrication operations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Operate band saws, circular saws, and other cutting equipment used in hydraulic tube fabrication.
• Review work orders, engineering drawings, and cut lists to determine material requirements and specifications.
• Measure, mark, and cut tubes, pipes, and metal components to required lengths and tolerances.
• Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Verify material type, size, and quantity before processing.
• Load and unload raw materials safely using cranes, hoists, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment where authorized.
• Monitor machine performance and adjust feed rates, blade speed, and cutting parameters as required.
• Replace saw blades and perform routine preventive maintenance.
• Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
• Identify and segregate non-conforming materials and report quality concerns.
• Maintain production records and accurately report completed work.
• Keep work area clean and organized following 5S and housekeeping standards.
• Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and safety.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Experience in hydraulic tube manufacturing or fabrication industry.
• Forklift and overhead crane operation certification.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and 5S practices.
• Experience working with ERP or production tracking systems.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-3 years of experience operating industrial saws in a metal fabrication, tube fabrication, or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
• Basic understanding of metal cutting processes and materials.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and measurements.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work long periods on your feet.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds at a time.
• Must wear safety gear, such as goggles and gloves, when handling box cutters or similar tools.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and metal chips.
Must pass a pre employment background check and drug screen.
