**Job Title:** Plastic Extrusion Machine Operator

**Location:** Apple Creek
**Shift:** **Second Shift** – **Monday–Thursday, 3:15 PM – 1:45 AM**
**Fridays:** Overtime typically required (8–10 hours)
### **Position Overview**
The **Plastic Extrusion Machine Operator** is responsible for the safe operation of extrusion equipment, ensuring quality output, and meeting production delivery requirements. This role involves performing machine setups and changeovers, troubleshooting issues, monitoring production processes, and ensuring the final product meets established specifications such as wall thickness, diameter, and length.
### **Essential Job Functions**
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, practice safe work habits, and immediately report safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Gather appropriate tooling and dies, ensuring proper resins are available and prepared.
- Set up, start up, and operate extrusion machines following approved specifications.
- Make processing adjustments within approved parameters to maintain consistent machine performance and product quality.
- Inspect and monitor product quality using measuring tools and approved inspection equipment.
- Identify and segregate scrap or defective products, and immediately report quality concerns to the supervisor.
- Package and label finished products accurately according to approved standards.
- Complete required paperwork or data entry accurately and on time.
- Perform equipment cleaning and purging during shutdowns and between jobs.
- Select and inspect tooling for damage before installation.
- Meet established production efficiency and quality standards.
- Minimize machine downtime by managing changeovers and adjustments effectively.
- Participate in and complete all required safety training.
- Support team dynamics by assisting coworkers and asking for help when needed.
### **Skills & Qualifications**
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- **Minimum 2 years of experience** in the setup and operation of plastic extrusion equipment.
- Basic computer skills and ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues.
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and quick to learn with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and make process adjustments as needed.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, including production layout, equipment handling, material flow, and adherence to OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to read tape measures, micrometers, and calipers, and perform basic math using fractions and decimals.
- Team player with strong communication and time management skills.
### **Physical Demands**
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, stooping, or climbing a step ladder.
- Frequent use of hands and arms to operate machinery.
- Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs as needed.
- Must be able to perform physical duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
