Grounds Maintenance Worker Needed in Middlefield, OH.
Job Title: Grounds & Facilities Assistant
Department: Grounds & Facilities
Pay: $14 an hour.
Temporary lasting until End of September into October.
Hours: 7am-3:30pm. Some weekends involved.
Location: Middlefield, OH
Position Overview:
The Grounds & Facilities Assistant plays a key role in supporting the maintenance and operational needs. This position involves hands-on work in maintaining park grounds and facilities, contributing to the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the parks, and ensuring a positive experience for all visitors. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and aligned with the District’s mission to preserve, conserve, and protect the natural features of Geauga County.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform routine groundskeeping duties, including mowing, trimming, and litter removal.
* Clean and maintain park facilities, restrooms, and shelters.
* Assist with setup and breakdown for park programs, public exhibits, and events.
* Post permits, notices, and signage as required throughout the parks.
* Operate various hand and power tools, mowers, vehicles, and specialized equipment safely and effectively.
* Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including weekends and holidays, as scheduled.
* Support general maintenance tasks and special projects as assigned by the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Must be at least 18 years old.
* Valid Ohio Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
* Previous experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, or construction preferred.
* Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and the public.
* Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Training Requirements:
Employees are required to complete and maintain current training in the following areas:
* Emergency procedures and communication
* Hazardous materials handling
* Personal protective equipment (PPE) use
* Sexual harassment and workplace violence prevention
* Fire safety and prevention
Physical Requirements:
* Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds.
* Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching.
* Must be able to operate vehicles and power tools safely and efficiently.
* Visual acuity for close detail work and safe equipment operation is required.
Work Environment:
* Duties are primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, as well as in indoor facility settings.
* Exposure to chemicals used in maintenance, such as pesticides, herbicides, and cleaning agents.
* Regular interaction with mechanical and motorized equipment.
General Expectations:
* Demonstrate a strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliability.
* Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
* Follow chain of command and Park District policies.
* Attend required meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs.
* Travel within or outside Geauga County may be required.
* Must maintain any certifications or licenses required for the role.
