The Old Town of Millersburg was laid out by Adam Johnson and Charles Miller in 1815. The Village of Millersburg was established in 1865. Millersburg is the county seat in Holmes County, which was named after Andrew Holmes, an officer killed in the War of 1812. There is a large Amish population centered in Holmes County which has earned the area the name of “Amish Country.” This extends into the five surrounding counties and is the largest Amish community in the world.
